About
Originally founded in the winter of 2007 as the L.A. Kronk Boxing Club, the gym was inspired by world class boxing coach and expert commentator Emanuel Steward. Inspired by the belief in the need for more coaches in the sport of boxing and an emphasis on stressing the fundamentals of boxing, we decided to open The Bludgeon also known as the L.A. Sands Boxing Club in Downtown Los Angeles. We chose Downtown L.A. not only because it is centrally located, but because of its current mystique as the come back center of L.A. We wanted to be close to L.A. Live and the Staples Center because we love Los Angeles and the great State of California and view its boxing climate as having the finest future potential for growth in the United States. We are also registered as USA Boxing officials. As such, we have established The Bludgeon as an official USA Boxing registration site.
We strive to build a solid boxing club where anyone of any age, nationality, or affiliation could get a superb work out, hone their boxing skills, and develop their character through a disciplined effort. We strive to provide a no frills old school boxing climate, where boxing can be enjoyed, practiced, and its history can be learned. We also place an emphasis on fitness, diet, and exercise technique. When you think of our gym, you think about Mike Tyson, coming into the ring at the peak of his power, with only a towel draped over his shoulders and wearing boxing shoes with no socks on. The true greats of the sport honed their skills without the appendages of technology. Accordingly, we believe in bringing it back to the basics. We are not plugged in at our gym because we believe in hands on personal interaction as a key to ones growth and ultimate success in the sport of boxing.

History of the Ring
Originally owned by the late Harry “Pops” Wilson, our ring trained many
individuals in the Police Athletic League (PAL) gym on
Franklin Boulevard in Sacramento, California.
The ring was a staple for World Champions like Tony The Tiger Lopez, Willie Jorrin and Diego Chico Corrales. The Tiger entered Pops gym when he was
10 years old and spent 9 straight years dancing around this ring. Our Boxing Ring was also used by the Cuban and Russian Olympic boxing teams during the pre-Olympic tournaments with the USA Teams. Shortly after its use for the international boxers, it was used by George Foreman, the former Olympic gold medalist and heavyweight champion for his mid-1980s comeback. Caesars Palace
once used the ring as a backdrop for an up and
coming Evander Holyfield fight that was held at their hotel.
In December 1988, Oscar De La Hoya won the
State Golden Gloves Championship in this ring.
The Golden Boy went on to become a Gold Medalist,
the first highlight of his boxing career,
at the 1989 National Golden Gloves tournament.
More recently it was used for the Golden Bear Amateur
Boxing Tournament that was held on the Shrine property
on Marysville Boulevard in Sacramento and helped to
raise funds for local youth.
The sale of this ring
to The LA Sands Boxing Club is to continue this
effort to help the local youth to find success in their endeavors.
Our Ring is a 4 rope Standard Boxing Ring. The floor
area of the ring is 20 ft. X 20 ft., with it being 16 ft. X 16 ft.
inside of the ropes. Our ring has proven to be stout
and has withstood the test of time exceedingly well.
Its worth not only comes from a high level of
craftsmanship used in its construction, but from all
the many memories every inch of it holds!
